Ancient Mesopotamian Meal

Lentil Stew and Flat Bread
Delicious!
It was fun to make an ancient Mesopotamian meal. I learned that mostly only rich people ate meat because people who weren't rich kept their animals for milk. The meal was easy to make. The ingredients were simple. The recipe for the bread is here:  http://mesopotamia.lib.uchicago.edu/lessons_PDF/life_a.pdf. The recipe for the Lentil Stew is:

2 cups lentils
4 cups water
1/2 tablespoon salt
chopped onion

1. bring everything to boil
2. simmer for 20-25 minutes

The Sun

How is the sun important to all life on Earth?

The sun is another source of energy humans, plants, and water use. People around the world often put solar panels on their roof. Why they do this is because the solar panels attract energy in the sun and stores it so when you’re charging your phone or turning on the lights. Plants use it as food to grow like humans do.

Agricultural Revolution

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the agricultural revolution.

The agricultural revolution was both good and bad for life. More children weren’t dying from starvation and they didn’t need to move as much. There was more diseases though. Since they stayed in one spot they started polluting. Another good thing was people stayed close together which helped with defending. So, there was both good and bad in the agricultural revolution.

Paleolithic Art

Why do you think Paleolithic artists painted the way they did? (see page 125)

I think Paleolithic artists started using paint on walls to tell their story to the world to see someday. The way they painted I think is because of culture to draw in a certain way. They didn’t have letters to write words so they painted it out for people to see. Now we admire Paleolithic paintings ourselves.

Learning about Geography

How do you like to learn about the world?

I like taking virtual tours of the world so I see the world with my own eyes without traveling there. Another way is by a game where you have to click in an area of the world that is named on the title. Then, it shows you where the part of the world it is and by how far or close it is to the real spot for a score. In another game, I found out where areas in the world there are land bridges but this was not the best game that I would choose.

Sequoia National Park - Descriptive Essay

Mia Lekika
Descriptive Essay
9/5/16
Write a descriptive essay about a place you know well.

I watched as night fell upon us and the sunset started at Sequoia National Park. I felt so small as I leaned against a tree. It was a shaded spot with cracks of sunlight coming from the trees pounding on me. I felt the small stream start to creep up to my ankles.

It finally was night. The existing heat perished. I listened to the crackling of the burning wood and I remember gazing at the bright fire. I watched the fireflies dance around me. I looked up to the stars to see the smoke leaping and dancing up to the sky and then disappearing.

When I wake up, the damp low clouds had mad droplets all around us and the smell of burnt wood and the song of the crickets were gone. As I open the tent, little clouds of smoke were still coming from the fire pit. I heard the new song of the birds that was a little melody that never stops until night.

I went down the hike to get to the small stream. The rush of the river was like no other yet you could still see the rocks under the water as if only the water that touched the surface was rushed but underneath it was still. As I leaned back I saw the canopy which seemed so far but as if I could reach a break in a canopy.

The sunset was falling upon us again and I was trying to catch fireflies for the night but they all ran away as if they were leaping into air and dancing to the music of crickets. I still heard the trickling of water and felt the moistness of the air. I started to let me eyes rest as I watched sap fall from the trees.

As Nature Grows

Reading Summary: Monkeys

Mia Lekika
Reading Summary:  Monkeys
9/30/16
Write a paragraph comparing and contrasting the monkeys in the two reading selections.

I just read 2 books about monkeys called Why Monkeys live in trees and The Case of the Monkeys that Fell From Trees. Just because both of these stories have the word trees in it does not mean they are exactly alike each other. These stories are alike and different from each other.

Some examples of the differences are...Why monkeys live in trees is a folk storie while the case of the monkeys that fell from trees is a true story. Another difference is in the story why monkeys live in trees the monkeys had the abilite to talk. Something thats similar is both the monkeys lived in trees. I do recommend these stories.

Review what you have learned about using a Web site. Write a letter to a friend in which you summarize the features of the ASPCA Web site and explain why it can be considered a reliable source of information.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Cali,
I’ve made a new website called ASPCA. You can go to pet of the week. Or, go to pet care and read about your pet. You can also watch pet care cartoons and learn why you should keep you cat indoors.
This is a reliable website because I have checked every website and checked with Wikipedia. I also have checked with people who write newspapers. I have also connected with investigators to check on my work and it is all true.
I believe you will love my website. Hope to see you soon.

8/30/16
My First Words
Little is known of my first words. All that my parents remember is we were living in UCLA housing. The first time my mom heard me was in the kitchen. My first words were Papa, Mimi, and button. My mom said it took me a long time to say Mama. It also took me a long to say any words. Before I started talking, my mom thought that I may have been mute because I was as silent as the wind floating long and far away from the beautiful willows. The doctors told my mom to keep on talking to me every day and I would someday, eventually, start to talk. Fortunattly, the doctors were right and I started to talk when I was 2 years old.
