What is Shabbat and what is the significance of the celebration?
Shabbat is a holiday of rest. It starts on Friday night and ends Saturday night when you see three stars in the sky. It celebrates how God created things for 6 days and rested the 7th day so the people of Israel rest on the 7th day of the week according to the Torah. Challah is the bread that you eat during Shabbat as well as wine that is served in a kiddush cup that the people pray over on Friday night.
